Bespoke Engagement Rings Brisbane — What The Process Actually Looks Like
Most Brisbane jewellers use the word bespoke. Few explain what it actually means in practice — what happens between the first conversation and the finished ring, and what decisions you will need to make along the way. This is an honest account of how we do it at Ruhuna Gemstones, from the first consultation through to the piece leaving our Brisbane atelier.
Why Bespoke — And Why Now
The shift toward bespoke engagement rings in Brisbane has accelerated significantly over the past few years. Couples increasingly want a ring that reflects something true about them — not a style selected from a catalogue, not a design that exists in a hundred variations across a hundred jewellers, but a piece that began as a specific stone and was built around it with intention.
The stone-first philosophy changes everything. A ring designed around a specific gemstone — its dimensions, its colour character, its proportions — will always outperform a generic setting with a stone inserted into it. The stone and setting exist in genuine relationship with each other rather than coincidence.
At Ruhuna, every bespoke engagement ring begins not with a design, but with a gemstone. Everything that follows is built around that choice.
The Signature Creations Process — Step By Step
- Step 1 — Select Your Stone Browse our curated collection of natural sapphires and gemstones — Australian parti sapphires, teal sapphires, Ceylon blues, yellow sapphires, pink sapphires and more. Every stone is individually photographed, described honestly, and available to view in person at a private consultation. You choose the specific stone that will become the centrepiece of your ring. Not a category. Not a specification. This exact stone.
- Step 2 — Choose Your Setting Once your stone is selected, we present the setting styles that suit its specific proportions and character. Solitaire, three stone, halo, pavé band, bezel, east-west — the setting is chosen in service of the stone, not the other way around. Metal choice — yellow, white or rose gold, all in 18kt certified Australian gold — is confirmed at this stage.
- Step 3 — Handcrafted In Brisbane Your ring is handcrafted by our Brisbane artisans in 18kt Australian gold, built specifically around your chosen stone. Production takes 4–6 weeks from confirmation. You receive the finished piece with full documentation of the stone's origin, treatment status, and specifications.
The Stone — Where Every Decision Begins
The most important decision in any bespoke engagement ring is the gemstone. It determines the ring's character, its colour, its proportions, and in many ways the setting design that will serve it best. Choosing the stone first — before any design decisions are made — is the approach that produces the best results, every time.
Our collection spans natural sapphires from Ceylon, Madagascar and Australia. Every stone carries full disclosure of its treatment status, origin and specifications. Here are some of the stones currently available for Signature Creations:
Every stone in our collection can be viewed at a private consultation before any commitment is made. We encourage this — the difference between a stone in a photograph and the same stone in your hand is significant, and no buying decision should be made without seeing the stone in person.
The Brisbane Difference
Bespoke jewellery produced in Brisbane carries specific advantages over overseas-produced pieces or pieces made interstate. Our artisans are based here. The work happens here. If an adjustment is needed after delivery, it is addressed here — not shipped internationally and returned weeks later.
Every Signature Creation is produced in 18kt yellow gold using 100% certified Australian gold — mined, refined and alloyed in Australia. This is not a marketing claim. It is a supply chain commitment that we are comfortable to document and discuss in detail.
The craftsmanship standard we hold is one we are willing to describe precisely — prong gauge, shank thickness, setting head construction, solder integrity. These are not details most jewellers discuss. We do, because a buyer who understands what they are paying for is a buyer who can evaluate whether what they are being offered is worth the price.
What A Bespoke Ring Costs In Brisbane
The total cost of a Signature Creation is the sum of the stone and the setting. Stone prices in our collection range from approximately $1,500 for smaller stones through to $15,000 and above for exceptional pieces. Settings in 18kt yellow gold begin at approximately $2,500 for a clean solitaire and increase with complexity — pavé bands, multi-stone configurations, and more elaborate designs sit higher.
The majority of Signature Creations fall in the $6,000 to $18,000 range, inclusive of stone and setting. This is the range in which a natural sapphire of genuine quality, set in an 18kt gold setting built specifically around it, becomes genuinely accessible.
Every Signature Creation begins with a conversation. We will show you the stones available in your preferred colour and budget, explain the treatment status and origin of each, and help you find the stone that is right for you — not the most expensive one, the right one. The Questions Worth Asking Any Brisbane Jeweller
If you are considering a bespoke engagement ring from any Brisbane jeweller — including us — these are the questions that will tell you the most about what you are actually getting.
What metal is the setting made in, and at what karat? What is the shank thickness at its base? Is the stone natural or lab-grown, and what is its treatment status? Is that documented with a reputable gemological certificate? Where is the ring physically made — in Brisbane, interstate, or overseas? What is the turnaround time, and what does the warranty cover?
A jeweller who cannot answer these questions directly and specifically is telling you something important. The answers to all of them, for every Signature Creation we produce, are available before you commit to anything.
