Our Name

The Kingdom of Ruhuna

Our name, Ruhuna (රුහුණ, ruhuṇə), pays tribute to one of Sri Lanka's most ancient and culturally rich kingdoms. Once a powerful centre of trade, resilience and artistry in the island's southern region, Ruhuna was famed for its natural abundance and deep spiritual traditions.

It is from this historic land — shaped by kings and temples — that we draw not only our name, but our values: integrity, care and a heartfelt respect for the raw beauty of natural gemstones that endures through generations.

Where We Source

Today those values guide us beyond Ceylon's borders. We source from the ancient gemstone deposits of Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Australia — including the sapphire fields of our own country — personally selecting every stone for its character, provenance and beauty.

We also work with natural mined diamonds, set in 18kt Australian gold and hand-finished in our Melbourne atelier. Each piece — whether a Ceylon sapphire ring or a diamond tennis bracelet — carries the same commitment: that the stone came from the earth with integrity, and left our hands with craft.

Every piece in our collection is handcrafted in Melbourne by artisans who share our obsession with detail. We use 100% certified Australian 18kt gold — sourced and refined domestically — and work with a small team of craftspeople whose standards match our own.
