Every stone we offer is natural, independently certified and clearly labelled — heated or unheated — before you see it. Every ring is handcrafted in Brisbane, made to hold your specific stone and no other. This is what fine jewellery looks like when nothing is hidden.
The Stones

The sapphires we source come from three of the world's great origins. Queensland's Anakie Gemfields produce parti-coloured stones found nowhere else on earth — yellow and teal in a single crystal, formed over hundreds of millions of years, always unheated. Ceylon, the ancient gemstone kingdom of Sri Lanka, produces the vivid cornflower blues that have set the benchmark for five centuries. Madagascar produces teal and blue sapphires of exceptional clarity, often with a colour shift that moves from ocean green in daylight to deep blue by lamplight.
Every stone is selected in person. Every stone is accompanied by an independent certificate from a recognised gemological laboratory — GIA, Gübelin or SSEF. Treatment status is always disclosed.

Around 90% of sapphires sold have been heat treated. Most are sold without disclosure — not because it is illegal, but because the industry developed before mandatory standards existed, and the habit of silence became convention.
At Ruhuna, every stone carries its treatment status clearly. Heated or unheated — you know exactly what you are looking at before any decision is made. That transparency is the foundation of every piece we make. Read why treatment status matters.
The Process
A Commission, Not A Purchase
There is no shop floor. Every piece begins with a private consultation via Zoom — where you see the actual stones, ask every question you have, and make decisions with full information. No pressure. No obligation.
Once you choose your stone and setting, your ring is handcrafted in our Brisbane atelier over eight to twelve weeks. The setting is made to hold your specific stone to its exact dimensions. The prongs are set by hand. The piece is inspected, photographed and dispatched with full insurance.

Ruhuna was founded by Australian-born Sri Lankans whose connection to Ceylon sapphires is personal, not commercial. The name comes from the ancient southern kingdom of Sri Lanka — the heartland of sapphire mining for over two thousand years.
Every stone is set by hand at our bench in Brisbane. The prong, the polish, the final inspection — the work of human hands, not a production line. This is the part you cannot rush, and the part we never will. Every piece leaving our atelier carries the same integrity as the earth that produced the stone inside it.

Yes. For Brisbane clients we arrange private in-person viewings in the Brisbane CBD or another secure professional setting — intimate, unhurried and focused entirely on you. We deliberately work by private appointment rather than a retail showroom, so every resource goes into the stones and the craft rather than a shopfront. Book a private viewing here.
We don't operate a traditional retail storefront, and this is a deliberate choice. By working through private consultation we direct every resource into acquiring exceptional stones and handcrafting them, rather than maintaining a showroom. Brisbane clients are welcome to a private in-person viewing by appointment; interstate and international clients meet us via Zoom.
From stone selection to completed piece, allow eight to twelve weeks. Every stage is carried out by hand in our Brisbane atelier — the setting fabricated to hold your specific stone, the prongs set by a master setter, the piece finished and inspected before it reaches you. If you have a specific date in mind, tell us at the outset and we will work to your timeline.
Every gemstone we offer is natural — never synthetic or lab-grown. Each individually listed stone is accompanied by an independent certificate from a recognised gemological laboratory such as GIA, Gübelin or SSEF, confirming natural origin and treatment status. Treatment — heated or unheated — is always disclosed before you make any decision.
We serve clients across greater Brisbane — including New Farm, Hamilton, Ascot, Teneriffe, Bulimba and the Brisbane CBD — by private appointment, as well as clients Australia-wide and internationally via Zoom consultation. Wherever you are, the process is the same: see the actual stones, ask every question, and decide with full information.
It depends on the stone — its origin, colour, carat and treatment status — and the setting you choose. Most Signature Creations fall between roughly $6,000 and $18,000 inclusive of stone and setting.
